While researching different learning management systems (LMS) I reflected on the amount of content I was learning that went along with ISTE standards. One of the standards that stood out to me was learner 1a: “Set professional learning goals to explore and apply pedagogical approaches made possible by technology and reflect on their effectiveness.” During this process I explored a lot of different types of technology inside of different LMSs. I also reflected on their effectiveness for the age group I teach. Another standard is, leader 2a: “Shape, advance and accelerate a shared vision for empowered learning with technology by engaging with education stakeholders.” Writing a letter to educational stakeholders about the technology we use as our main form of online engagement is very vital. Lastly, while researching and exploring the LMS I was really focused on personalized learning being a special education teacher. The ISTE standard that hits home on personalization is designer 5a: “Use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs.” A few things that ISTE standards do not cover is communication between teacher and student and parent. ISTE standards also don’t talk about the ease of access and training for students and parents. This is very important because if students and parents are not trained on the system they cannot access the information teachers are trying to give them. During online only schooling this is especially important for students and parents.
